Evening Wear Tips

You shouldn't be intimidated with the idea of shopping for an evening dress! You can start looking early and find the perfect dress. Here's what you should do:

Determine the formality. Should it be cocktail or evening attire? Cocktail and evening attire usually involve little black dresses. Long dresses are reserved for formal black-tie affairs.

In a dress, give the greatest importance to the style and colour. Not every dress works for all body types. You want to dress to flatter your figure. If you can't be sure, you can ask a friend or a salesperson.

Once you know the type of dress, you must choose a style. Instead of going trendy, select a dress that reflects classic, timeless elegance. Here are some styles to choose from.

The Halter Dress is a very sexy formal look. You can find many versions of this style. There are different sizes, widths, and materials for the straps. A halter dress will bring attention to the upper half of the body. This is great to draw unwanted attention away from the hips and legs. Halter dresses call for earrings and no necklace.

For special occasions, cocktail dresses are the most versatile. Most opt for the little black dress which is the most popular look for a cocktail. Today, jewel-tones, bright and rich fabrics do well for a short evening dress. You usually won't have much problem accessorizing cocktail dresses. If you have wide hips that you'd like to hide, go for strapless dresses or those with cap sleeves.

If you want to go simple, choose a sheath dress. Sheath dresses have clean lines, which is flattering to most figures. Sheath dresses can be dressed up or down. The jacket dress provides more coverage without the fuss of a wrap. The matching dress and jacket is perfect for anniversaries and weddings.

Not every figure looks best in a one piece dress. For those hard-to-fit bodies, a dressy separate can do the trick. You can have one special piece to wear with a solid piece. Off-shoulder dresses can show a lot of skin without making you uncomfortable. Complete your outfit with a pretty necklace or a brooch.
