Healthy Skin - A Lifetime Commitment

By Tara West

Everybody ages and with that ageing comes a larger need to look after your skin. Your skin may suffer with blemishes, blackheads, forehead wrinkles, crow's feet, drooping or more serious diseases like skin cancer. There are many alternate ways to avoid these sorts of skin problems but to start you have to know the basics about keeping your skin at its best.

Making absolutely sure that your skin stays clean is among the best and simplest ways that you can keep it healthy. Taking dedicated care to exfoliate your skin while you''re washing will help your pores stay unclogged and cut back the incidence of spots and blackheads. You should wash your face 2 times each day (but no more) with warm water and a mild soap. Wash with circular motions and avoid scrubbing too vigourously. The AAD (the American Academy of Dermatology) strongly suggests that you use an over the counter moisturizer straight after washing and drying.

Try and stay clear of the sun if you don't have the protection of sun screen. Too much sun exposure could cause premature wrinkling, dryness and is the major cause of skin cancer. By using sun screen as a part of your daily routine you'll be able to circumvent the negative results that sun damage can have on your skin.

You should try and keep your hair clean and when using hair grease or gel you should do your best to keep your hair away from your skin. Your hair contains oils that can cause spots. You need to also clean your hands before touching your face. Avoid popping zits. When you pop a pimple it may cause an infection and even scarring. Though it may be very tempting popping a pimple it may result in a problem that is bigger than the problem that you have already.

Be very careful when choosing cosmetics and other beauty products. Try to choose products which are made with natural ingredients and that will not block up your pores. As a rule, the lighter the product is the less likely it'll be to cause pore blockages underneath your skin. Regardless of what sort of cosmetics you use, you should always be certain to remove all beauty products thoroughly before retiring to bed.

When selecting things such as lotions or body sprays you need to be careful as well. Scented lotions are full of oils that may block the pores. With body sprays you should be careful to avoid getting any on your face. If you wear specs you need to ensure you wash them well so that they don't deposit excess dirt on your nose.

Following these easy and basic pointers will help ensure that you achieve and maintain healthy and clear skin through your lifetime.
