There are probably more myths about acne than any other health problem. The problem is that such a wide and diverse group of people suffer from acne and yet the causes aren't always immediately obvious. An unfortunate side effect to the many rumors is that the cures they offer often serve to make the problem worse. That's why we're going to be exposing some acne myths in this article.

For the majority of people, they think only teenagers get acne. It is common in adults, even though most cases are in teenagers. With or without acne, a teenager can have emotional problems, but at least you are part of a big crowd when you have acne. Dealing with acne as an adult can be very difficult, especially when you think it is something that only happens when you are young. There is no age limit for acne, as one half of women and a quarter of men, will have to deal with acne, long after their high school days. Every adult doesn't get acne, but it does happen a lot more often than you might think. There is no reason to stress out, because no matter what age you get acne, there are ways to treat it effectively.

Acne isn't contagious - no matter how many rumors you've heard. You may have heard rumors that acne can be spread by kissing, by sharing soap or by some other way. There isn't a contagious element to acne at all. Acne isn't the cold or flu. It can't be shared. Acne is the result of what's going inside your body where hormones and bacteria coexist. There is some degree of debate among experts as to whether or not there are occasions when diet and/or stress can contribute to acne outbreaks. But on the question of acne being contagious, this is definitely a myth and something you shouldn't worry about.

Getting rid of existing pimples is a noble goal but it won't accomplish nearly as much as treating the entire area. The best results when you treat acne is a condition that is widespread instead of addressing isolated occurrences.

While there are many things that do cause acne, many people believe false information about the causes. Just remember that most of the cures that are available are suited for specific cases. It may take a little while to find the right one or you. It's best to investigate any information you hear about acne, or ask your doctor, before believing it.
