As a woman, it seems like we are expected to have an instinctual knowledge of what to wear , and how to wear it, but in truth, many of us, including myself, could really just use some fashion help from time to time. I know that in my own life, I stand in front of the mirror for several minutes each day, wondering if what I am wearing is going to make me look good, or if I will look fat. I know it's stupid, but I go through this each day, and every day I walk out my door feeling insecure and inadequate.
It's a problem that I unreservedly acknowledge and have discussed with my female friends, but up into a few weeks ago, none of us had encountered a solution. After many of these chats, I came to the realization that we were slowly getting nowhere, and that if we all felt bad about ourselves, how could we ever find an answer?
We kept making each other feel so down in the dumps that I jokingly suggested that we all might be happier staying home, without mirrors, and never leaving the house without a bag over our heads. Luckily, only a few days later, I met a new person who moved into my neighborhood, a woman who quickly became a good friend, close enough that I told her what I was going through. She smiled warmly and let me know that I was not alone in my feelings, that she had also dealt with insecurities and a absence of confidence, but that she had come across some fashion help that made a huge difference for her.
I was directed to a website that not only did away with many of the myths and stereotypes that had been keeping my friends and I tied to the idea that we had to automatically know how to be beautiful. I learned that real beauty is something that comes from within each individual woman and that the key to being beautiful is learning how to feel beautiful.
I was so pleased with these natural beauty tips, and I was certain that once I really internalized these new ideas of fashion and beauty, I would be able to have a brand new outlook on life and that I could feel truly beautiful no matter what, and I would not have to rely on what other thought of me. Now, I feel so much more confident, that when I stand in front of the mirror, I look at myself with a smile instead of confusion.
