The Causes and Types of Diabetes

By Jacob Waeetane

Diabetics are all over the world and there are many diabetes causes that can be pointed out. Generally, diabetes has three classifications as it is understood by many medical practitioners world wide. The cause of the condition is the basis in the three type classification. If you have a history of diabetes in your past generations, you should have a look at these classifications to know if the diabetes incidence in some of your relatives and family members were genetic or not. Here are the three types of diabetes:

What is Type 1 diabetes?

This type of diabetes was known in the past as childhood onset diabetes or juvenile diabetes. People who learned that they have this type of diabetes aren't really the obese body type as most people picture people with diabetes. That's because type 1 diabetes isn't because of a person's lifestyle.

The reason behind this type of diabetes is the loss of the pancreatic cells that produce insulin. The glucose levels increases so there is a need to administer insulin shots. The patient will require a shot of insulin regularly because the loss of the cells is irreversible. This type of diabetes is only a small part of the diabetic patient's population.

Type 2

In the type 2 diabetes the body is not responding to the insulin. The so-called insulin resistance is believed to be due to over exposure of the body's cells to insulin when there is the long term high concentration of insulin in the blood stream due to constant high levels of glucose because of unhealthy lifestyle. Treating the condition at its early stages can reverse the unresponsive cells' condition.

Gestational Diabetes

This type of diabetes, is found; as the name suggests, in pregnant women and the symptoms of diabetes and cause is like type 2 diabetes. It also exhibits insulin resistance but the resistance is gone at the end of pregnancy. It only becomes dangerous if the baby is affected by it.
