Don't Let Obstacles Stop You from Improving Your Fitness

By Patrick Priston

You may find yourself getting frustrated as you begin to exercise or begin a fitness program if you are hitting a brick wall. One such brick wall is lack of time for a fitness schedule. But we all know how important it is to overcome these obstacles. This article will discuss how to avoid some of the most common hurdles you will have to jump on your way to fitness.

One problem people who haven't exercised for a while face is that they don't feel sufficiently fit to begin a fitness program! This is sort of like feeling too sick to go to the doctor or too hungry to eat, yet it can be a factor in many cases. It can be intimidating to start exercising if you've been inactive for a long time. Perhaps you tried something that was too advanced for your level and concluded you couldn't keep up with an exercise program. If you start slowly, however, you can always find an appropriate type of exercise. Your doctor can advise you about what type of exercise is appropriate if you have any illness or serious condition. If other types of exercise seem too strenuous, you can always start with walking, beginning at any speed that feels right for you. Eventually, plateaus happen to everyone who participates in any type of exercise.

An example of a plateau is a runner who can't seem to get beyond a certain number of miles. You may only be able to lift a certain amount of weight and no more, if you lift weights. The best way to get past a plateau is to change up your routine, even in minor ways. Working your body in a slightly different manner will make it easier to get past your limitations. It's important to know that you still benefit from the regular exercise bike workouts even when you seem to be stuck at a certain level.

Those who aren't happy doing their routines will find themselves quitting or not starting a lot sooner. Find an activity you enjoy to avoid this situation. If you are struggling with coming up with an activity you enjoy try considering what activities you enjoyed even as a young child.

There is bound to be at least one activity you enjoyed doing. Perhaps you enjoy bike riding, racket ball, martial arts or swimming? If you're having fun, you won't think of exercise as a chore. Recognizing your personal problems and obstacles can help you reach your fitness goals. You have to be patient with yourself, and be satisfied with any progress you make, even if it's not as rapid as you'd prefer. You're not trying to compete with others when it comes to improving your fitness. As long as you are moving forward, you're going in the right direction. These tips will help keep you on track to your fitness goals by helping you overcome any obstacles.
