How To Look More Vibrant And Fresh After 50

By Liana Badea

Women after 50 use make up to reinvigorate the face and to get a youthful and fresh look. Therefore, the make up should be as light and as natural as possible. A heavy makeup on a mature face will accentuate the wrinkles and dark circles, creating an exhausted look. Here are some tips on how to use make up after 50.

The first step in any makeup is applying the foundation. Women over 50 need to use a very light foundation with the same color as their natural skin tone. It is recommended to use primers before foundation, as primers smooth over wrinkles and tighten the skin.

If you like to use eyeliner, do not use it on the lower lash line. It will draw attention to the dark under eye circles and you don't want that. Draw just a thin line on the upper lash line.

Use soft colored eyeliners. Toss the black one, it is too harsh. Use brown and gray instead.

After 50 the eyelids get softer and more sensitive. Hard tip eyeliner will irritate their soft tissue, so go for a soft pencil or a gel.

Smokey eyes makeup is a no-no. It will not look good on a mature face, as after 50 you really need to brighten up your face. Use cream eyeshadow to brighten up a dark makeup. Use it in the inner corners of your eyes and below your eyebrows.

Be easy with the eyeshadow too. Use translucent powdered shadows, if possible eyelid primers that will smooth-en the fine lines.

For under eye circles, find a wearable concealer to help mask those dark shadows around the eyes. Using the right color concealer will make the whole eye area look refreshed.

The eyebrows are very important too. Shade your brows with a brown, natural looking brow pencil.

Using mascara is crucial for a perfect makeup. The focal point of the face is the eyes. The mascara will literally open the eyes. Use at least one coat, every day. For an evening out, use false lashes, they add an instant glamor. Top false lashes with mascara to blend with the rest of your lashes.

Lipstick is a must for every woman. After a certain age, the regular lipstick will settle into the little wrinkles around the mouth. Replace lipstick with a lip stain, then top the lip stain with lip balm. The stain will stay put for a long time, but it can feel dry on the lips, that is why you need to use the lip balm, to moisturize the lips. Never use a lip liner, it is old fashioned and very unflattering.

After eyes, brows and lips make up, it's time for the blush. Use discreet blush and don't create high contoured cheekbones. Make it as natural as possible, like you are really blushing. A natural looking blush will instantly make you look younger and fresher. Don't use dark colors. If your skin is light, choose a pink blush, if your skin is dark, use an orange blush. Try to match your blush with the lip color tone, it will make a big difference in the overall look of your face.

Finish your fabulous makeup with a loose powder, using a large blush.
