Ibogaine is a medicinal substance used in the treatment of drug addiction. It is obtained from the root and bark of a West African plant known as Iboga. These herbs are commonly found around Ghana. They are boiled in a lot of water then stored in plastic containers. In most countries it is legal while in a few others possessing the herb is a serious offense.

Ibogaine is used to treat drug addiction in some countries. Drug addicts are given the medicine before taking any meals in the morning. It reduces drug and substance craving for a certain period of time. It makes the patient lack interest in taking the drug. The patients are put under therapy and left in isolated rooms to reflect on their lives. Patients are pushed to reality where they are able to realize the bad effects of drugs. These drug addicts are able to realize the losses associated with drug addiction.

Ibogaine was used during performing of rituals in many communities. It was boiled and given to the affected. In most cases it was used to prevent evil spirits from affecting those in the communities. The dead were washed using the medicine since it was believed they could help and protect their families. Those disturbed by these spirits were given the medicine and were supposed to drink it after an attack by evil spirits.

Physicians are supposed to have some time with the patient before administering the drug. This session is meant to convince the patient to have a willing mind. This is the most important thing since the mindset of the patient is a great determinant of success. These drug addicts in most cases are supposed to decide on their own whether or not to undergo the therapy. Attitude is also very important since it affects every activity that takes place. Patients are required to be positive about the drug in order to achieve the best results.

Patients react positively after a single dose of this therapeutic herb. It works well for most patients who reportedly experience quick changes. In most cases those to whom the herbal medicine is administered are people that have had a prolonged drug addiction history. They are taken to a rehabilitation center were they are not exposed to this drugs. Patients are then given a multiple of doses and they gradually recover.

Drug traffickers have found it difficult selling drugs in some of the countries. They are deported from these countries once they fall into the police dragnet. In most countries such as the United States, drugs seriously prohibited. Those using drugs usually face criminal charges. Ibogaine is not also accepted in these countries since it seems to comfort the substance users.

Walking can be a problem to some patients that use ibogaine. It contains a substance that can weaken the leg muscles. It also causes deformities to unborn babies if the mother uses it. Cancer cases have been reported in extreme use of ibogaine. Patients are therefore not allowed to take it in large amounts.

Countries have always had a problem with drug addiction. The economies of most countries have declined due to substance abuse. Ibogaine has become a relief to most families that have parents who are addicts. Substance dependent people are always advised to use this therapy since it has been tested and proven.
