Why You Should Always Use Paraben Free Skin Care Products

By Juliette Cruz

It is never too late to learn how to take care of your looks. There are a lot of personal products on the market with just as many ingredients as you can imagine. To really take care of your skin means to be aware of what you're actually putting on it. One of the most important concerns right now is using paraben free skin care products.

Although they have been used for decades in consumer products, parabens should be avoided if at all possible. They are used to extend the life of the product by killing off any bacteria that may have made their way into the packaging. If you look carefully you can find them being used in many of the products you use every day. Parabens can be found in soaps, cosmetics, shampoos, conditioners and even toothpaste.

Since they have been used for decades you might be wondering exactly how they could be bad for you. Parabens have been shown to bind with certain cells called estrogen receptors causing them to prompt responses not unlike estrogen. These responses may lead to tumors of the breast and even cancerous tumors may result. Studies have shown parabens to act as hormones in mice and they have also been found in breast cancer cells making it a possible link.

Although the chemicals in one personal hygiene product may not be enough to cause any potential harm, the problem is they are found in such a wide range of items. In a typical morning it is possible to be exposed to these chemicals while washing your hair, brushing your teeth, putting on deodorant, applying makeup and hand lotion. You would be using several products in succession that contains the toxic chemicals.

Just because you are male does not mean these chemicals are safe for you. Parabens are classified as artificial estrogens and are referred to as xenoestrogens. In males these have been shown to cause lowered sperm count, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. The chemicals tend to accumulate in cell tissue without degrading allowing the chemicals to be concentrated.

Being the largest organ of the body makes your skin a very important one indeed. It is structured so that it will absorb chemicals in which it comes in contact. For this reason everyone should be concerned about the type of chemicals that come in contact with their skin. Just remember that if it comes in contact with your skin, then more than likely it is going into the body.

Your best defense is to use personal care items clearly marked as being free of parabens. Double check the label to make sure that benzylparaben, isobutylparaben, methylparaben, butylparaben, ethylparaben, or propylparaben did not like the ingredient list. This will help you identify any of these chemicals that you do not want in the ingredients.

Finding healthier alternatives is always the best strategy for anything you put into your body. Choosing to use all-natural paraben free skin care products is one of the best choices you can make to help avoid healthcare problems in the future. A great way to get started is by doing a parabens check on the items already in your medicine chest. Throw out any items with these toxic chemicals and replace them with all-natural alternatives.
